Diatribe: Too Much Doppler is a Bad Thing!

I love “Survivor”.  I’ve never missed an episode in all the years that it’s been on.  Back in the day, we would have “Survivor” parties when we’d gather with friends to have snacks and vote along with the players at tribal counsel   It was a Thursday night tradition.  A couple seasons ago the program moved to Wednesday nights.  It was an adjustment, but I’m pretty resilient so I was able to alter my schedule so as to never miss my second-favorite program.

Until last night … when our local CBS affiliate decided that they wanted to show off Storm 5 Doppler Radar instead of what their viewers and their advertisers were expecting to see.  While other channels had a crawling weather bulletin across the bottom of the screen, or a radar map in the corner, their regularly-scheduled programming took center stage.  Meanwhile, I watched a 47″ HD weather map for an hour.  I hope I can watch “Survivor” on demand!

I left an unpleasant voice mail for the station manager.  I don’t think I was the only one since I had to call several times to get through.

Ovation:  A manager from NewsChannel5, apparently using Caller ID, left a voicemail message later in the evening apologizing for the inconvenience and letting me know that the episode would be broadcast at 12:35 a.m.  What a pleasant surprise!  I recorded it so I’m proud to say that I still haven’t missed an episode.
