Ovation: The Bluth Family Is Back! “Arrested Development” Returns!

I’ve always been told that I have a strange sense of humor.  As a teen, I enjoyed “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” more than the network comedies, my favorite comedienne was Judy Tenuta and my favorite movie has always been Mel Brooks’ “History of the World: Part I”.  Most of my friends don’t “get” the comedy that I enjoy.  A perfect example would be “Arrested Development”!  Fortunately, the Bluth family’s frozen banana stand may be back in business!

At a reunion yesterday, the creators and cast of “Arrested Development” announced plans for another season of the short-lived but critically acclaimed television show, which went off the air in 2006 after just three seasons.  After rumor after rumor over the years, they also discussed more definite plans for a much-awaited movie.

Shooting for the TV show is tentatively set to begin next summer but the movie doesn’t yet have a release date.  The creative aspects have been largely worked out, but the business side is still being negotiated.

The show featured a dysfunctional family who ran a collapsing real estate development company and frozen banana stand.  The television season will supposedly explain where the characters have been for five years and set up plot development for the movie.  Despite its rabid fan base, ratings were low, and it was not a commercial success.  The show’s fan base, however, was a devoted and loyal following that “gets” it and wants more.

I’m excited to see this show return to FOX and hope that I can get my friends to tune in and enjoy it with me.

I did not see the 1st-run episodes but have been watching on Netflix. I will need to catch up on episodes before the new season begins.
