Ovation: Beyoncé To Perform During Super Bowl XLVII.

One of the funniest stories that we tell at our house is about a Super Bowl party.  It was during  Super Bowl XLII (February 26, 2008) that featured Aerosmith, NSYNC, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige and Nelly as the halftime entertainment.  The party was in full swing when the performance began and we all found ourselves glued to the television trying to determine if Britney Spears (who looked fantastic!) was really wearing a sock on her arm.

The recent announcement that Beyoncé will be headlining the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVII on February 3, 2013 is enough to make many fans, football lovers and pop fans alike, look forward to the big game.  An announcement confirming that the Grammy-winning diva will take the stage at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans is said to be imminent.

This will be the tenth Super Bowl hosted by the city of New Orleans and the first since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.

Beyoncé, whose many R&B hits include “Crazy in Love” and “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)”, has won sixteen Grammy Awards to date and shows no signs of slowing down.  The 31-year-old star and new mother last performed for a Super Bowl audience when she sang the national anthem at Super Bowl XXXVII (2004) in her hometown of Houston, Texas, when the Patriots defeated the Panthers.

During last year’s Super Bowl broadcast, it was reported that more viewers watched the halftime show (featuring Madonna, Cirque du Soleil, CeeLo Green, Nicki Minaj, LMFAO, M.I.A. and a few drumlines) than the game itself.  If there is any truth to the rumors that Beyoncé could be joined by her husband, rapper Jay-Z, or her former Destiny’s Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, CBS could earn equally impressive statistics.

I, for one, will be tuning in to see what Beyoncé has to offer that might top previous performances by Madonna, The Black Eyed Peas, The Who and Bruce Springsteen.  I imagine she’ll be bringing her “A Game” but she probably won’t wear a sock on her arm.
