Ovation: Screen Actors Guild Awards & Predictions.

sawards_showdetails_fI love awards shows.  I always have.  And one of my favorites has always been the Screen Actors Guild Awards.  The SAG Awards, which made its debut in 1995, is different than the Golden Globe Awards and the Academy Awards (“Oscars”) because actors vote for other actors.  The only televised awards shows to exclusively honor performers, it presents thirteen awards for acting in film and television.  This year’s recipients will be announced tonight in a two hour live broadcast.  I have a reasonably successful history of picking the winners for the SAG Awards and this year I’m going to share my predictions.  I’ve highlighted my predictions in the following list of categories and nominees.

UPDATE:  I picked six winners correctly and was wrong on seven.  I was particularly surprised by the two wins for acting awarded to Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey of 30 Rock.  This is the show’s last season and, I’m please that Fey is finally being recognized for her acting as well as her writing, but I really hoped the union would recognize someone other than Baldwin this year.  The motion picture awards only added to the confusion surrounding this year’s Oscar race as Jennifer Lawrence and Argo appear to be gaining momentum. It seems that Hathaway could be the only win for Les Miserables come Oscar night.  I need to hone my skills before then.

  1. I haven’t seen many of these movies (I’m a DVD girl!) but I do so hope Daniel Day Lewis gets it. I love to see an historical film getting accolades. And Sally Field was amazing as Mary Todd Lincoln.

    • She really WAS wonderful as Mary Todd Lincoln. (I think she’s wonderful in most everything!) And, while I preferred Lincoln to Les Miserables, I’ve never seen a performance as unbelievably emotional as Hathaway’s.

  2. Wow, you really do like award shows. Thanks for the detail summary and your picks. I need to see a couple of those movies – Sliver Linings Playbook, Argo and Zero Dark Thirty.
