Ovation: Harvard Study Confirms That Red Wine Can Provide Anti-Aging Benefits.

RedWineI have friends and family that are wine connoisseurs.  While they haven’t studied abroad, taken courses or shadowed a renowned sommelier, they have consumed enough wine to consider themselves professionals.  They’ve been fortunate enough to travel to many famous vineyards, learned the techniques of decanting and they can speak knowledgeably about what it is that they’re drinking from every glass.  Now they can tell everyone that their hobby might actually help them to live longer.

Harvard Medical School researched have confirmed that the compound resveratrol that’s found in red wine does, in fact, provide anti-aging benefits.  Apparently, their study confirms that resveratrol stimulates production of a serum that blocks disease by speeding up a cell’s energy production center.

Some drugs currently in clinical trials are thought to be able to provide the same anti-aging benefits as well.

Resveratrol is a naturally occurring antioxidant that is found in some plant products like grapes and cocoa.  It is produced by the plants to protect them from extreme environments like excessive sunlight, infections and climate changes.

“We’re finding that ageing isn’t the irreversible affliction that we thought it was.  Some of us could live to 150, but we won’t get there without more research.” – David Sinclair, Harvard Medical School professor of genetics.

Naturally, there are those in the scientific community who are not yet convinced that the Harvard studies are conclusive claiming there could be flaws in the study’s findings.  But, this is how science works … results should be questioned, discussed, tested and tested again.

Just to be on the safe side, I think I’ll open a nice Merlot with dinner tonight.

Do you enjoy red wine?

  1. You’d better plan on having a whole lot of red wine to have the effects they’re talking about in this study!

  2. Which explains why I have the liver of a ninety year old wino but I don’t look a day over thirty.

Seriously, though, red wine is good, and good for you!

  3. Best Harvard study yet! Hooray for red vino! 🙂

  4. I don’t like wine & especially don’t like red wine, but if I did I would be whooping it up & filling a shopping cart with red wine! Anything to help with anti-aging! Dark chocolate anyone?
