Diatribe: Counterfeiter Returns A Printer To WalMart With Bills Still Inside.

CarrI’ve been using copy machines and printers for most of my adult life.  Over the years I’ve used everything from dot-matrix printers, ink-jet printers, laser printers, etc. and they all have one thing in common.  They all require paper and that paper inevitably gets stuck inside the mechanics of the machine.

Removing a “paper jam” can be a frustrating and time-consuming effort.  But certainly worth the work if you intend to return the printer … and even more so if they paper caught inside the printer is counterfeit currency.

Jarad S. Carr wasn’t smart enough to remove a sheet of paper with two $100 bills printed on it from his printer before he attempted to return it to WalMart.  Employees at the store in the Village of Lake Hallie, Wisconsin, were trying to help him best they could be he didn’t make it easy.  He insisted that they refund the cost of the printer even though he did not have a receipt and it had clearly been used to print counterfeit bills.  Despite the fact that a clerk had handed him the piece of paper found in the used printer, he kept pushing for a refund, even trying to get half price for the printer.  When the store refused to take back the printer, Carr grew even more insistent, refused to leave, and the police were ultimately called.

“You go to a Walmart with a printer to return and no receipt, with your counterfeit bills still lodged in it, and you want to dicker with the clerks to get half price back, when you have warrants out for you.  There are a few lessons here about not drawing attention to yourself.” – Lake Hallie Police Chief Cal D. Smokowicz

Once officers arrived on the scene Carr, 37, resisted arrest and unsuccessfully tried to run from the store.  Three additional counterfeit $100 bills were found in Carr’s pockets when he arrived at the jail where he, already wanted on two felony warrants for armed robbery and burglary, was charged with attempted theft by fraud, forgery and resisting arrest.

I won’t be surprised if I see this story on America’s Dumbest Criminals.  I think he certainly qualifies.  Don’t you?

  1. First off, he thinks a copier is the way to make counterfeit bills?
Second off, he gets caught with the counterfeit bills and still wants to make the return?
Third off, yeah, that’s all I got …. He’s dumb.

  2. Sometimes folks get just what they earned! This is one of them.

  3. Mr Carr is definitely a contender for a Darwin Award.

  4. Jay Leno sometimes does a Dumb Criminal bit, but he’s just showing the cream of the crop. If these guys had any real brains, they’d have a career, or at least a job, and not be dumb crooks.

  5. Will they let him have the trophy in jail?
