Diatribe: Tracy Morgan Screams As Host Of Billboard Awards.

05/20/2013

TracyMorganWhile I’m generally an awards show addict there is always one part of the ceremony that can make me change the channel quicker than no other … a bad host.  This year’s Billboard Music Awards featured comedian Tracy Morgan as the host.  I’ve never been a fan of Morgan and found myself pushed further away by his outrageous Nashville rant in the summer of 2011 when he said that he would stab his son to death if he ever discovered he was gay.

While he quickly apologized and the dust eventually settled, I continued to find him obnoxious.  And my opinion hasn’t changed as a result of his work as host of the Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Every time Morgan appeared on screen he was shouting.  To me, he’s a one-trick pony who’s made a career out of playing himself.  I’m sure there are many who will disagree with me, but I think Morgan was more annoying that amusing.

What did you think of Morgan’s performance as host?

  1. I am also an Awards Show Whore™ but I draw the line at listening to Morgan.

  2. Sounds like I did not miss much. My wife has the TV tuned into “The View” downstairs. They were talking about the guy on the show you reference who tried to leap to a stage and landed on a fan. Is she alright? What was the reaction?

I hate Award Shows, but Tracey is quite entertaining and can be funny at times. I like to watch him on late night tv with guys like Conan or Leno… I do agree with you though, he is a one trick pony and he can definitely be obnoxious…
