Ovation: Hanson’s Ninth Studio Album – “Anthem”.

06/18/2013

hansonDuring the summer of 1997 there were few people who didn’t hear “MMMBop” on the radio.  It certainly qualified as an earworm!  The song made the Hanson an overnight phenomenon.  Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson, then 16, 14 and 11 years old had been performing together for several years before their big break.  Here’s a reminder …

And now, sixteen years later, they’re still making music together.  This week, their ninth studio album, Anthem, will be released.  Soon, in honor of the band’s twenty-first birthday, they’ll be marketing a beer called MMMHops and they plan to donate proceeds from their merchandise to aid disaster victims in their home state of Oklahoma.

“Whenever something really strikes a community, I think your confidence is a little bit shaken.  We performed in those schools.  Those communities were really supportive of our band.  We are going to continually be a part of that effort, because that is our home.” – Taylor Hanson

While they may be older, married and fathers, it seems that they can still make some catchy music together.  They’ll probably never see a time like the summer of 1997 again but, if the following video of the first single from Anthem (“Get the Girl Back”)is any indication, I think we could be hearing more from them again soon.

What do you think?  Were you a Hanson fan in 1997?  Are you one now?
