Ovation: Shania Twain Is Making New Music And Heading Back To Las Vegas.
Years ago, in a time when female recording artists didn’t have to “twerk” and stick their tongues out to entertain an audience, it was all about the music. From her breakout album in 1995, Shania Twain proved to the world that she was more than just a pretty package … she could back it up with her voice. Her sophomore album, 1997’s “Come On Over”, became the best-selling studio album of all time by a female act in any genre and the best-selling country album of all time selling more than forty million copies worldwide.
Then, sadly, Twain chose to remove herself from the spotlight and away from the paparazzi to focus on her personal life. A troubled marriage led to divorce, remarriage and a move to France where she has lived for almost ten years. It’s been far too long since most of the world last heard her beautiful voice.
Recently, to the delight of her fans, she revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that she has music in mind for a new album and has begun a search for the best producer for the project.
“I’m pretty much there with my songs, I’m really just sitting on the fence in regards to a producer. So I’m listening to a lot of records, doing my homework there, and trying to determine who is the right match.” – Shania Twain
A new album, the first since 2002’s Up!, would be her fourth. And, apparently, fans can expect fewer upbeat songs and more introspective and inspiring music from a more mature singer.
“I do want it to be perfect, and I want it to be something that I really enjoy and a product of my inspiration…it’s been a long time. I’m different, I’ve evolved, and I want that to be reflected in the music. At the same time I don’t want to abandon the root of what I am.” – Shania Twain
Twain, who has lived quietly outside the reach of paparazzi in a French château, will also return to the Las Vegas stage in October. SHANIA: STILL THE ONE, at The Colosseum of Caesars Palace, is described on her website as “a concert celebration that takes guests on a spectacular journey through the various stages of Shania’s life and career in an unforgettable evening filled with music, multi-sensory experiences, fashion and a few unexpected surprises. The spectacular, high-energy production is a compilation of Shania’s most celebrated hits including ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman!’, ‘You’re Still The One’, and ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’, and features a 13-piece band and four male dancers. SHANIA: STILL THE ONE is designed to give audiences that intimate, only in Las Vegas concert experience – with no fan more than 120 feet from the magnificent stage. The high-tech production incorporates some unexpected surprises including multi-scent show projectors, a new 4D multisensory technology that has never been used before in a concert setting.”
Hopefully, she’ll find a new audience in today’s twentysomethings that will appreciate her talented voice. It seems to me that today’s young people don’t necessarily appreciate a truly talented singer like we did in my youth. After all, they’ve grown up listening to many performers (not always singers) whose work has been electronically manipulated in several different ways. To win them over, Shania doesn’t need auto-tune, she doesn’t need a shocking wardrobe, she doesn’t need to “twerk” … she just needs to sing.
