Ovation: Ray Niedzwiecki Bowls A Perfect 300 At 81.

300ClubI used to be really into bowling.  It can be a lot of fun if you have the right attitude.  It’s something to do while you drink a few beers, share some snacks and have laughs with friends on a Saturday night without investing a lot of time or money.  I’ve belonged to several bowling leagues over the years and have always been amused by the fact that so many bowlers are so very serious about the game.

When I was bowling regularly I kept immaculate records.  I carried a spiral notebook in my bowling bag along with my shoes and, from week to week I, documented my scores, my averages, and any ideas or suggestions for improvement to my game that I thought might be significant.  But mostly, my biggest concern was remembering to eat my snacks with my left hand so that I didn’t get any grease from the fried bowling alley foods on my right hand.

Throughout my bowling career, I only won one trophy.  It was a stone coaster for bowling a 200 game.  I still have it.

Ray Niedzwiecki of Exeter, Pennsylvania, may have set a record recently when, at 81 years old, he bowled his first perfect 300 game.  His friends caught his 10th frame on video.

I can’t imagine how nervous e must have been.  Even if, like me, you tell yourself that you’re just bowling to have something to do while you visit with friends, when you get to the point that you’re good enough to possibly bowl a perfect game you’ve got to feel some pressure to perform.

It’s wonderful that Ray’s friends were so supportive.  It’s wonderful that Ray still bowls at 81!  Ray is wonderful!

Do you like to bowl?

  1. First off, I am so gay that when i saw the post title, i thought you were posting about some kind of chic, artistic housewares made by a guy named Ray Niedzwiecki. I was interested in seeing these beautiful bowls!

    I never thought bowling! Oy!

Now, I do like to bowl though it’s been a while and, in fact, at age 8 I won a ribbon for getting a 7-10 split! Don’t ask me how, though ….

  2. Way to go Ray. What a thrill at any age. I can only dream of such. Thanks for sharing. It sounds like you were a very good bowler yourself. 200 is a great score and an aspiration for me when I bowled, but never achieved.

We had a tiny bowling alley in our remote village in cold, dark Canada. Some yahoos decided to steal all the copper pipe. Then we had a curling alley when all the water froze. Since you could only get stolen goods out by boat the hooligans were caught within days. The RCMP office was dockside and they just put their feet up on their desks and used their binoculars.

I am a bad Canadian and never have figured out curling. I should have my maple leaf revoked.
