Ovation: Christian Stoinev.
I have a friend who’s really into yoga. He, apparently, is quite good at it, too. I tried it once … alone in front of my television where no one could see me. I couldn’t do it. I have no sense of balance so I kept falling over … literally.
Hand balancer Christian Atayde Stoinev was born on December 4, 1991 in Sarasota, Florida. A fifth generation circus performer, he began his career at the age of five and by his thirteenth birthday was one of the youngest acts in the renowned Big Apple Circus. He’s performed for princes, appeared in TV commercials and television specials worldwide, as the opening act on Britney Spear’s “Circus” tour and as a part of Cirque Musica. But I’d never heard of him until last night when I saw his audition for Season 9 of the hit NBC talent competition America’s Got Talent.
At twenty-two years old, it appears to me that Mr. Stoinev has more experience and is more at ease in front of an audience than most performers twice his age. He’s an attractive yet modest young man with a talent that is quite unique.
“He makes it look so easy!” – Mel B.
Stoinev has been working with his dog, Scooby, as a part of the National Basketball Associations halftime entertainment program and has already performed for the New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers and Chicago Bulls among other teams. Hopefully, he’ll go far on America’s Got Talent so we can watch him dazzle us with other feats of balance that only he and, possibly, my yoga-obsessed friend can perform without crashing to the ground.
