Diatribe: @UPS Driver Throws Package Over Fence, Reports Having Left It “At Front Door” and UPS Denies Shipper’s Claim For Damages …

imageWMHere’s a picture of what UPS might do to your Christmas gifts if you pay them to deliver your packages. This package contained a one-of-a-kind antique that did not survive its journey. It was carefully packed in a “moving box” that was purchased specifically for this purpose, surrounded by additional sheets of cardboard and approximately $15-worth of packing “peanuts”. The carton, as you can see, was clearly marked “Fragile” with orange stickers placed on all sides. The UPS driver responsible for this delivery chose to throw it over a fence and onto a driveway where the box was crushed and the contents destroyed. He noted (fraudulently) in UPS records that the item was “left at front door”.

Two weeks later, after hours of telephone calls from both the sender and the recipient, UPS has declared that “the claim for this shipment has been denied due to insufficient packaging.”

BEWARE! UPS appears to be completely overwhelmed this holiday season and friends and family should be strongly urged to use FedEx for any shipping needs. Customer service at UPS is abysmal on a good day and nobody needs added stress when shipping gifts to loved ones.

SHARE to warn your friends and family!

UPDATE: Possibly as a result of this post and its circulation in social media, the shipper’s claim was reconsidered. UPS has offered multiple apologies and a refund of shipping costs is pending.

UPDATE 12/28/15: The shipper received reimbursement via check.

  1. I have missed you. Thanks for this post. Keith (aka BTG)

  2. Same happened to a box for my folks. Directions instructed driver to go through gate and knock on door. He tossed the box over the gate, onto concrete driveway. The glass angel did not survive.
